Scottsdale covers a lot of ground — from the walkable restaurants and galleries of Old Town, out through the golf-course communities near the McDowell Mountains, to newer luxury development further north. What ties it together is polish: manicured landscaping, resort-style amenities, and a higher price point than most of the Valley.

It tends to suit people who want walkability and nightlife within reach, golfers and resort-lifestyle buyers, and anyone prioritizing curb appeal and HOA-maintained neighborhoods over acreage or privacy. It’s less of a fit if you want space between you and your neighbors or a lower cost of entry — that’s the tradeoff for the location and polish.

Old Town itself is genuinely walkable, which is rare for the Valley. Once you’re north of there, you’re back to driving for most errands, same as anywhere else in Phoenix.

Scottsdale delivers if walkability, resort amenities, and being close to the action matter more to you than square footage per dollar. If you want more house for the money, that tradeoff is worth being honest with yourself about upfront.
